old world and location
Historic hotel with old world charm. The above question to put a descriptive word against the George Hotel, none applies. We used the hotel as a rest stop while visiting Stonehenge
As Australians travelling throughout the UK, we found that the lack of basics such as a small refrigerator in the room is a necessity. None of the other hotels that we stayed at provided a refrigerator either so the George was not alone on this issue.
Sky dive with Red Devils
Bath was very chipped ,room was dusty.Hotel to us was not 3 star standard
Only needed the room as were attending a wedding near by.
Conveniently located within the heart of the village - close to Stonehenge & within half an hour by car to other places of interest.
Classified as a 3 star hotel, there was Mould on the walls, and on the window frames @ approx. £55:00 - Sorry but comparative hotels at a slightly higher rate are more hygienic.
The fact that the staff were very friendly and that there was a functioning pub within the hotel which was well supported by locals helped to create a nice atmosphere, along with a roaring log fire to welcome you.
When I require a value room a one night stop when I am in the area - the George fits the bill nicely - clean and basic with a good breakfast.
Incredibly old building, historic inn
To be honest it was one of the worst weekends. Not only was there dirty toilet roll left in the room there was also mold on the bed covers themselves. I personally think I was charged too much and will personally be looking for compensation for my stay. We were left for a long time waiting for our room key when we arrived as everyone who worked there was at the bar within the hotel!! I will not be recommending this awful place to anyone ever.
Room was clean and comfortable Breakfast was good and promptly served Host and Hostess friendly and welcoming
Evening restaurant service slow, menu poor and general layout poor. Late night drinking was noisy and disturbing as it was Friday night and licensed until 2am.
The lovely old building and ambience.
A lot, E.G. bad-tempered / bearish employees, grubby rooms, delayed and very bad (!!) breakfast, nazi cartoons in front of our room. I am so sorry that I am only a _ucking German who wants to stay one night there. Note that in the nearness several Inns and a kind of disco are located. The Friday night sounds boozed.
We liked that it was an old coaching inn and was cheaper than most other accomodation in and around the Salisbury area. It was also one of the few that had availability for the dates we required. It was situated in a small village. Breakfast lady very pleasant!
Although this hotel appeared cheap compared to others on website for the area, it wasn't that cheap at £70 per double room p/n. We expected better. I was not happy that on arrival I went to use the toilet and was burnt on the leg by a very inappropriately situated radiator right next to toilet. It was a very hot day and as such didn't expect radiator to be full on anyway. There was no room to move away from it for either myself or my boyfriend. We told hotel staff at reception but didn't received much in way of an apology. We found the service very impersonal. A maintenance man was sent to our room soon after complaint to turn radiator off. It was then very cold touching our leg when on toilet it was that close!! We asked to change rooms because of space restriction but were told there was only one other available and that was right above the Kareoke machine which would be on until the early hours so we declined. Our bedspread had 2 quite large cigarette burns in it which would have been clearly visible to whoever made the bed.
The beds were very comfortable and the water was hot in the shower. One member of staff was very accommodating and made us a good takeaway breakfast as we were leaving very early.
Exceptionally noisy at night from karaoke bar which is open to 2 a.m. Not cleaned to a high enough standard. Poor choice of food in restaurant.
This hotel is also a pub and when we arrived on a Saturday night it was very busy and noisy. The shrieks and shouts of revellers and car doors slamming went on quite late; ideal venue for a stag or hen weekend not a quiet relaxing break. Our room was shabby and in need of refurbishment, the bathroom plumbing left a lot to be desired with the trickle of hot water making it impossible to run a bath!
The George Hotel provided everything I required under one roof.
